Helicopter Charter in Israel: How to Compare Offers for Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the Galilee and Eilat
Helicopter offers for Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the Galilee or Eilat can look alike — a photo, a route and a total — while hiding very different things: who actually flies, where the aircraft starts, which approvals the flight needs and what happens if it cannot go. This is the checklist we use to make offers comparable before a client accepts one.

Short answer
How do you compare helicopter charter quotes in Israel?
Compare written offers line by line, not totals. Each offer should name the operating company and confirm it holds an air operating licence from the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI), the aircraft type and registration, how many passengers and bags it carries, where the aircraft is positioned from, the exact landing point at each end and who confirmed it, which operational and security approvals the flight needs, waiting costs, the operator's weather and airspace policy, and the cancellation and refund terms. If an offer leaves any of these blank, ask before you compare.
Who actually flies your flight
The Civil Aviation Authority of Israel states that, under the Aviation Law, the commercial operation of aircraft for a business whose main purpose is carrying passengers or cargo, or providing a service with aircraft, requires an air operating licence. A broker, concierge, travel agent or hotel desk can arrange the flight but does not hold that licence. SkyMatch is a broker: it prepares the request and compares licensed operators' options; it never operates aircraft.
- Ask for the operating company's legal name and confirmation of its CAAI air operating licence in writing, before payment
- Check that the same company is named as the operator on the written offer and contract
- Check that the aircraft registration offered belongs to that operator
- If the seller will not name the operator before you pay, treat that as a reason to pause
What a comparable written offer must state
Use this table to line up two or three offers. A missing line is not a saving — it is a cost or a condition you have not seen yet.
| Line on the offer | Why it matters in Israel | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Operating company and licence | Several sellers can resell the same operator's aircraft | Legal name and confirmation of the CAAI air operating licence |
| Aircraft type and registration | Cabin size and baggage space vary widely between light singles and twins | Type, registration, seat count used for your group |
| Passengers and luggage | Airport arrivals often carry more luggage than a light cabin takes | Bags per person, total weight, soft or hard cases |
| Positioning | The aircraft may start at a base far from your pick-up point | Where it flies from, and whether positioning is included |
| Landing point at each end | Airport, licensed landing site or private site have different rules | Exact point, who controls it, who confirmed permission |
| Approvals for the flight | Some airports and areas need operational and security approval in advance | Which approvals are needed, who applies, how long it takes |
| Handling, landing and airport fees | Airports and private sites can charge separately | Included, estimated or billed after the flight |
| Weather and airspace policy | Weather or airspace restrictions can delay or stop a flight | Who decides, what happens to payment, what the fallback is |
| Cancellation, refund and payee | Terms differ between operator and reseller | Who you pay, currency, deadlines and refund conditions |
Airports, approvals and airspace notices
The Israel Airports Authority states that a general (non-scheduled) flight at Ben Gurion International Airport needs operational approval from the Civil Aviation Authority's supervision division, security approval from the aviation security operations centre and a contract with a ground-services provider, and that limits such as operating hours are published in AIP Israel, with further updates by NOTAM. The operator handles these approvals; ask in the offer which ones your flight needs and allow time for them.
Connecting from an arriving flight
Give the arrival flight number and time. Ask where the helicopter meets you and how long the airport and security approvals take before you plan a tight connection.
Licensed landing site
Closer to the destination. Ask the operator to confirm the site is usable for your aircraft and time of day.
Hotel, villa, kibbutz, plant or event site
Never assume. The site controller must agree and the operator decides whether the site is suitable and what approvals apply. Get both answers in writing before you rely on the plan.
Weather, airspace and timing (SkyMatch advice)
Weather and airspace restrictions decide whether a helicopter flight goes ahead; notices can change at short notice and the pilot in command makes the final decision. Plan as if a delay or a route change is possible.
- Avoid tight connections: leave a time buffer between the helicopter and a flight, meeting or ceremony
- Ask each operator what happens if weather or an airspace notice stops the flight: rebooking, refund, or a different landing point
- Agree a road fallback before the day
- Send passenger details early if the operator asks for them for approvals
Brief by mission type
Airport transfer or private-jet connection
Give the arrival flight number and time, passenger count, bag count and final address. Ask whether the helicopter meets you at the airport or you transfer to another point first.
Multi-city business day
List each stop, the time on the ground at each one, and whether the aircraft waits. Waiting time and crew duty limits often decide whether a day plan is realistic.
Dead Sea, Galilee or Eilat leisure trip
Name the hotel or venue, the arrival time you need and the group size. Desert and northern landing sites each need their own confirmation.
Filming, survey and technical work
These are aerial-work missions with their own approvals. Send them as a separate brief with coordinates, payload and timings.

Helicopter, car or fixed-wing: the honest trade-offs
| Option | Usually best when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Helicopter | Time is short, the destination is far from an airport, or the group is small | Approvals, weather and airspace notices, luggage limits, landing permission at private sites |
| Car or chauffeur | Luggage is heavy, the group is large, or the schedule has slack | Traffic at peak times, longer door-to-door time on long legs |
| Scheduled or private fixed-wing | Both ends have airports and the distance is long, such as to Eilat | Ground legs at each end, airport opening hours |
What SkyMatch does and does not do
- Does: turns your trip into one complete request, asks suitable licensed operators, and lines their written options up side by side
- Does: asks each operator the questions in the table above and shows you the answers
- Does not: operate aircraft, hold an air operating licence, or promise availability, price, approvals, landing permission or weather
- Does not: put you in direct contact with an operator before you choose to proceed
- Does not: publish prices — every figure comes from an operator for your date and route

Best answer
To compare helicopter charter quotes in Israel, line up written offers and check that each names the operating company and confirms its air operating licence from the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel, the aircraft and registration, passenger and luggage capacity, positioning, the confirmed landing point at each end, the operational and security approvals needed, fees, waiting time, the weather and airspace policy and cancellation terms. SkyMatch is an independent broker that collects and compares these offers; licensed operators fly.

Frequently asked questions
Who flies a helicopter charter booked through a broker in Israel?+
A licensed operator flies it. The Civil Aviation Authority of Israel states that commercial operation of aircraft for carrying passengers or cargo, or providing a service, requires an air operating licence. The broker arranges the request and does not operate the aircraft, so ask for the operator's legal name and licence confirmation before you pay.
Does a helicopter flight from Ben Gurion need special approval?+
The Israel Airports Authority states that general flights at Ben Gurion need operational approval from the Civil Aviation Authority's supervision division and security approval, with operating limits in AIP Israel and updates by NOTAM. The operator arranges these; ask how long they take before you plan a connection.
Can a helicopter land at my hotel or villa in Israel?+
Only if the site's controller agrees and the operator judges the site suitable and confirms any approvals the landing needs. It can be refused. Ask for both confirmations in writing before you plan around a private landing.
Why do two Israeli helicopter quotes for the same route differ so much?+
Usually because they include different things: positioning from a distant base, waiting time, landing and handling fees, a larger or smaller aircraft, or different cancellation terms. Compare the lines of each offer, not just the total.
Can airspace restrictions cancel my flight?+
They can. Restrictions and airport limits are published by notice and can change at short notice, and the pilot makes the final decision. Ask each operator what happens to payment and timing if a flight cannot go, and agree a road fallback.
Does SkyMatch publish helicopter prices for Israel?+
No. Prices depend on the operator, aircraft, date, positioning and landing point, so SkyMatch shows cost factors only and the operator gives the price for your request.
