Request a private helicopter

Request your private helicopter

Give us the pickup point, destination, date, passenger count and luggage. We ask licensed operators what aircraft they can offer on that date, and what landing permission is realistic.

SkyMatch coordinates requests and does not operate aircraft. Availability, price and landing permission are confirmed by the licensed operator.

Why clients use our private helicopter service

SkyMatch is an independent aviation concierge — not an operator. We work for the client, source across operators, and stay accountable end-to-end from RFQ to landing.

Independent operator network

We source from operators we know — twin-engine IFR, corporate-configured cabins, current maintenance.

Same-day quotes

Concierge routes RFQs to operators in the right region within minutes, not days.

1–8 passenger cabins

Executive, family or team configurations — with the aircraft type chosen to match luggage, seat count and range.

Door-to-helipad routing

We plan pickup at helipads and FBOs closest to the actual origin and destination, not the nearest airport.

Independent coordination

We don't operate aircraft. We coordinate between you and the operators — no lock-in, no hidden mark-ups on tail-number.

Worldwide reach

UK, Europe, Mediterranean, UAE, US East Coast, Alps and islands — one point of contact, any origin.

Private helicopter charter: prices, routes, aircraft, quotes and door-to-door travel

Private helicopter charter is priced per mission for the whole aircraft, not per seat, and the figure is set by the operating company rather than by the broker. What moves it most is the aircraft category and where that aircraft has to fly in from, followed by passengers, luggage, landing points, date and any waiting time on the ground. SkyMatch Group is a helicopter charter broker and operator-network layer: it compares suitable aircraft and operator offers for a specific route, and does not operate aircraft, guarantee availability or set the price.

Pricing

How much does a private helicopter charter cost?

A private helicopter charter is priced per mission for the whole aircraft, not per seat, and the figure is set by the operating company rather than by SkyMatch Group. Because the same city pair can be flown by a light single-engine machine or a heavy VIP twin, and because the helicopter may have to fly in empty first, there is no single valid price for a route. The only accurate number is a quote issued against your exact date, aircraft category and landing points.

SkyMatch Group publishes no universal price list for that reason. When you send a route, date, passenger count and luggage brief, the request goes to operators that already cover the corridor and their current mission pricing comes back for comparison.

What factors determine helicopter charter price?

Route distance, aircraft category, passenger and luggage load, where the aircraft has to position from, date and season, departure and arrival facilities, landing and handling fees, crew duty and waiting time, one-way versus round-trip structure, local taxes and any operational restriction on the day.

Aircraft category and positioning are usually the two largest movers. A sector flown by a helicopter already based near the departure point behaves very differently from the same sector flown by an aircraft ferried in from another base or jurisdiction.

Why does aircraft positioning affect price?

A helicopter only earns while it flies, so if the nearest suitable aircraft is based elsewhere, the empty flight to reach you and the empty flight home are part of the mission. On corridors with locally based aircraft, positioning is short or nil; on corridors without them, positioning can be the largest single line in the quote.

This is also why flexible dates and directions reduce cost: an operator repositioning in your direction anyway can price the leg far more keenly.

Is helicopter charter priced only by flight hour?

No. An hourly rate is one input, but the invoice is a mission price. Positioning legs, landing and handling at each end, crew waiting time on the ground, night or restricted-hours operation, and local taxes all sit alongside the hours flown.

Comparing two offers on hourly rate alone is misleading. Compare total mission price, what is included, and what is billed afterwards.

Why can two operators quote very different prices for the same route?

Because they are not offering the same thing. Different aircraft categories, different home bases and therefore different positioning, different crew and duty arrangements, and different inclusions for landing, handling and waiting time all produce legitimately different numbers for one city pair.

SkyMatch Group’s role is to put those offers side by side in comparable terms so the cheapest headline is not mistaken for the best mission.

One-way vs round-trip helicopter charter — what changes?

A round trip where the crew waits at the destination is usually cheaper per leg than two independent one-ways, because the aircraft avoids two extra positioning flights. The trade-off is waiting time, which is billed, and less schedule freedom on the return.

If the return is many hours later, releasing the aircraft and re-positioning it can sometimes be cheaper than paying for a long ground wait. It is worth asking for both structures.

Requesting a quote

What information is needed for an accurate helicopter charter quote?

Exact origin, exact destination, date, preferred departure time, passenger count, luggage, one-way or round trip, any waiting requirement, how flexible the schedule is, and any special landing requirement such as a villa, yacht, resort or event site. With those, operators can price the mission; without them, any figure is guesswork.

Precision on origin and destination matters more than travellers expect: a landing point on the other side of a bay can change the aircraft, the permission and the price.

How should a corporate buyer request a helicopter charter?

Send the full itinerary in one brief — every sector with times, the passenger manifest size, luggage per person, waiting requirements between meetings, and the cost-centre or approval process. Multi-stop days should be quoted as one mission, not as separate legs.

Corporate missions usually depend on crew duty limits and ground waiting time rather than distance. Sending the whole day up front avoids re-quoting after the schedule moves.

How should yacht, resort or event transfers be planned?

Start from the landing point rather than the city. Yacht decks, resort pads, estates and event sites each carry their own permission and suitability question, and those answers determine the aircraft as much as the distance does. Confirm the landing point before fixing the schedule.

Event dates also compress availability, because every operator in the region is holding aircraft for the same weekend. Earlier briefs get better aircraft.

What questions should travellers ask before confirming a charter?

Who is the operating company and what aircraft is assigned; what exactly is included in the price; what is billed for extra waiting, diversion or an added sector; what the weather and cancellation terms are; and whether the landing points at both ends are confirmed for the date.

Every one of these is answerable in writing before payment. If an answer is vague, it usually becomes a cost later.

Aircraft, passengers and landing points

How many passengers can a helicopter carry?

Charter helicopters commonly carry between four and twelve passengers depending on category, with light singles at the lower end and heavy VIP twins at the upper end. Seat count alone does not decide suitability: total take-off weight, luggage volume and sector length all constrain how many of those seats are usable on a given day.

Why does luggage matter when selecting a helicopter?

Helicopter holds are limited by volume and by weight, not by a piece count, and luggage competes directly with passengers and fuel. Hard cases and golf or ski equipment often decide the aircraft category on their own, so bag sizes belong in the first brief rather than the day before.

What determines aircraft suitability for a route?

Passenger and luggage load, sector distance and required range, whether the routing crosses water, mountains or built-up areas, the size and surface of the landing points, and the time of day. Over-water, night and reduced-visibility sectors typically call for a twin-engine IFR aircraft.

What are landing and helipad considerations?

Every landing point needs permission, adequate physical space and an approach that suits the aircraft. Airports and licensed heliports are straightforward; private pads, hotels, estates, yachts and event sites need confirmation from the operating company for your specific date before the plan is fixed.

SkyMatch Group does not grant landing permissions and does not claim access it cannot evidence. Permission sits with the site owner, the authority and the operating company.

How does operator location affect the total charter price?

It changes the empty flying attached to your mission. An operator based near your departure point adds little; an operator ferrying an aircraft in from another region — or another country, with its own permits — adds hours you do not fly but do pay for.

Helicopter vs jet, helicopter vs car

Helicopter vs private jet — which is better for short-distance travel?

A helicopter usually wins when the sector is short and the real destination is far from a convenient airport, because it can land close to where you are actually going. A private jet usually wins as distance grows, or when passenger numbers, luggage volume, cabin comfort or range matter more than the final mile. Neither is universally faster or cheaper.

The honest test is door to door with the ground legs included at both ends, not cruise speed. On many regional pairs the two options land within minutes of each other and the decision comes down to luggage and comfort.

Helicopter vs car — when does a helicopter save significant time?

When the road route is long, congested, mountainous, coastal or interrupted by water, and when arrival timing is not negotiable. On free-flowing roads under about an hour, a car is normally the sensible choice; the helicopter case grows with traffic uncertainty and geography.

Time is not the only variable. Schedule control, arrival condition and connecting to a jet or a yacht on a fixed slot often carry more weight than the raw minutes saved.

How should travellers compare total door-to-door travel time?

Add the ground transfer to the departure point, boarding and handling, the flight itself, and the transfer at the other end — then compare that total with the door-to-door road time on the same day and hour. Comparing flight time to road time is the most common mistake in this decision.

When is helicopter charter most useful?

Short sectors into places airports do not serve well, tight same-day schedules, jet connections with a fixed slot, island and coastal legs where the road or ferry is slow, and event or yacht arrivals with a hard window. It is least useful when the schedule is flexible and the road is straightforward.

What should travellers compare before booking?

Total mission price rather than hourly rate, what the price includes, the aircraft category and its suitability for your load, the landing points at both ends, the weather and cancellation terms, and the identity of the operating company holding the flight.

Nice → Monaco

How much does a private helicopter from Nice to Monaco cost, and what is the fastest way to travel?

The sector is quoted per mission for the whole aircraft, and on the Côte d’Azur the deciding factors are the date, the aircraft assigned and the handling at each end rather than the short distance. The helicopter is normally the fastest option door to door because it removes the coastal road, whose travel time in season is unpredictable rather than merely long.

  • Compare the transfer to the departure point plus handling and flight against the full road time at that hour.
  • Landing access is confirmed by the operating company for your date.
  • Summer weekends and event weeks compress availability — brief earlier.

How much does a helicopter from São Paulo to Angra dos Reis cost?

How much does a private helicopter from Madrid to Ibiza cost?

How much does a private helicopter from Barcelona to Andorra cost?

Cost of a private helicopter charter

English

How much does a private helicopter charter cost?

It is priced per mission for the whole aircraft, not per seat. The figure depends on aircraft category, positioning, passengers, luggage, landing points and date. The operating company sets the final price; SkyMatch Group compares those offers for your specific route.

Information needed for an accurate quote

Helicopter versus private jet

English

Helicopter or private jet — which is better?

Helicopters win on short sectors because they land close to the real origin and destination and remove the airport at both ends. Jets win once the distance grows or the trip crosses water or borders, where speed, range, luggage and cabin comfort matter more than the final mile.

Helicopter versus car or ferry

English

Is a helicopter faster than driving or taking the ferry?

Compare door to door, not flight time against road time. A helicopter usually wins where the road is congested, mountainous or coastal, or where a ferry schedule dictates the day; on short off-peak runs a car is often the sensible choice.

Who operates the flight

How far in advance to book

English

How far in advance should a helicopter charter be booked?

Earlier briefs get better aircraft and better pricing, because positioning can be planned instead of improvised. Short-notice missions are often possible where aircraft are locally based, but event weeks, holidays and peak season compress availability across a whole region at once.

Common mistakes travellers make

  • Comparing hourly rates instead of total mission price.
  • Giving a city instead of the exact landing point.
  • Leaving luggage out of the first brief.
  • Comparing flight time to road time rather than door to door.
  • Assuming a published figure for one date applies to another.
  • Fixing a schedule before the landing point at either end is confirmed.

Private helicopter service — FAQ

Flight times, availability, pricing, booking process, aircraft and safety — the answers we send private clients every week.

Service basics

A private helicopter service is a chartered, non-scheduled flight where the whole aircraft is booked for one party. Unlike scheduled heli-taxi routes, timing, routing and passenger list are entirely yours. SkyMatch sources the aircraft, coordinates the crew and helipad clearances, and handles the paperwork.

A helicopter taxi is a scheduled or shared service on a fixed route. A private helicopter charter is exclusive: you set the origin, destination, timing and passenger list, and the whole aircraft is yours for the leg. Chartered flights can also land at private helipads and estates, not just published heliports.

Flight times & routing

Battersea or Heathrow to the Cotswolds runs ~30–40 minutes. Heathrow to Barnstaple / Chivenor in North Devon is ~1h 10m. Heathrow to Newquay in Cornwall is ~1h 30m. Actual block time depends on aircraft type (single vs twin-engine), weather routing and the landing site.

Nice Côte d’Azur to Monaco is ~7 minutes, Nice to Cannes is ~5 minutes, and Nice to Saint-Tropez is ~25 minutes. These are among the most requested French Riviera legs, and availability is confirmed per date with the operating company.

Block time = takeoff to touchdown, and includes air traffic routing, standard cruise speed (typically 130–160 kts for a twin-engine executive helicopter), and any weather-driven detour. On the quote we always send both a straight-line distance and a realistic block-time estimate.

Availability & lead time

For hubs like London, Nice, Milan, Monaco, Dubai or New York, availability inside 3–6 hours is realistic. Regional legs (Devon, Cornwall, Scottish Highlands, Aegean islands) typically need 12–24 hours to position the aircraft, weather permitting.

Yes — same-day and last-minute charters are a core part of what we route. From major hubs we regularly confirm inside 3–6 hours. For urgent medical or business legs we escalate immediately via WhatsApp and reach every operator with matching aircraft in the region.

Operators run a formal weather brief before departure. If minimums aren't met the flight is delayed or rescheduled — safety is non-negotiable. Rebooking terms vary by operator; we make sure the policy is spelled out in writing before you commit funds.

Night operations are possible with twin-engine IFR helicopters and night-rated crews, subject to the destination helipad being lit and permitted for night landings. We confirm eligibility per route before quoting.

Pricing & payment

Charter is priced per mission for the whole aircraft, not per seat, and the operating company sets the figure. Aircraft category and positioning move it most, followed by passengers, luggage, landing and handling, date and any waiting time. Send the route and date and we return the operators' current mission pricing rather than an estimate.

London to Paris one-way in a twin-engine executive helicopter is priced per mission for the whole aircraft, and London to the Cotswolds is a much shorter sector priced the same way. The figure moves with aircraft type, landing site and handling. Return legs and empty-leg pricing are sometimes available and can reduce the total.

A SkyMatch quote covers block time, fuel, crew, landing fees at the primary heli-site, VAT / local taxes where applicable, and concierge coordination. Add-ons such as ground transfer, catering, extra hold luggage or overnight aircraft positioning are itemised separately so you can see exactly what you're paying for.

Card, bank transfer and (for many operators) crypto settlement are supported. Payment terms are set by the operating carrier, not by SkyMatch — we surface them clearly with the quote so there are no surprises before you commit.

Often, yes. An empty leg is a helicopter repositioning without passengers, so the operator may release it below full charter pricing. Empty legs are opportunistic rather than scheduled inventory: they are tied to one date, one direction and one aircraft, and any saving is set by the operator. Tell us your flexibility and we will flag matches as they appear.

Booking process

Four steps. 1) Submit the RFQ with origin, destination, date/time, passenger and luggage count. 2) We route it to suitable operators in the region and return their offers as quickly as possible, subject to operator availability. 3) You approve a specific aircraft and operating company. 4) Pay the deposit, receive the flight brief, and depart. WhatsApp us at any step for updates.

Origin, destination (city, hotel, estate or coordinates), preferred date and time window, number of passengers, approximate luggage, and any special requirements (pets, VIP privacy, catering). The more precise the brief, the tighter the quote we can return.

Yes. We regularly plan for private helipads, country estates, hotels, event sites and construction pads. Send the coordinates or address on the quote form and the concierge team will confirm landing permissions with the operator before you commit.

Each charter is confirmed with a per-flight agreement issued by the operating carrier that spells out the aircraft, crew, route, price and cancellation terms. SkyMatch reviews it with you before signature so nothing is buried in the fine print.

Yes — that's one of the most common requests we route. We sync helicopter pickup with private-jet ETAs at LHR, LTN, FAB, LBG, Nice, Milan Linate, Dubai Al Maktoum and other FBOs worldwide.

Aircraft, cabins & safety

Light single-engine helicopters (R66, H130) seat 4–6 passengers. Mid-size twin-engine executive helicopters (H145, AW109) carry 6–8. Heavy VIP twins (AW139, S-76) can seat 9–12. Luggage volume drops as seat count rises, so we always size the aircraft to the actual brief.

We prioritise operators with executive-configured cabins — leather interiors, noise-attenuated cabin, air-conditioning, and discreet crew. Aircraft type is matched to the seat count, luggage volume and range you specify on the RFQ.

Single-engine is fine for VFR daytime legs over land and is cheaper per hour. Twin-engine is the industry standard for over-water routes, night operations, IFR conditions and any VIP mandate. We recommend twin whenever the routing touches sea, mountains or reduced-visibility conditions.

The operating carrier holds the AOC and is regulatory-responsible for the flight. SkyMatch coordinates and vets the operators we work with, but every flight is executed by a licensed carrier under their own operational control.
