Calculator 10 of 10 — payload reality check
Industrial payload and equipment calculator
Helicopter payload is finite and traded directly against fuel, so the seat count in a brochure is not the number of people who can fly with equipment. Enter actual crew weights, PPE, tooling and cargo, and this calculator shows usable payload after fuel, how many sectors the load really needs and what will not fit. Final payload is set by the operator for the specific airframe, temperature, altitude and sector on the day.
The most common cause of a re-planned industrial rotation is an underestimated load. Survival suits, tool bags, spares, core samples and instrument cases add up fast, and the aircraft gives up seats to carry them.
Mission inputs
The figures above are a preliminary planning estimate for the route, aircraft category and passenger count you entered. They reflect estimated flight time and typical market cost bands — not a live operator quotation. Only the licensed operator that flies the mission can confirm aircraft availability, landing permissions, operational feasibility and final pricing. Use this estimate to scope the trip, then send it to SkyMatch for a managed charter review.
Indicative usable payload after fuel
625 kg
1000 kg useful load less about 375 kg of fuel for a 45 min sector plus reserve.
Load requested
780 kg
6 people at 105 kg each, plus 150 kg cargo.
Usable seats on this sector
4 of 7
Sectors required
2
Over or under
155 kg over
- Payload, not seating, is the limit here: about 4 of 7 seats are usable on this sector once fuel and cargo are loaded.
- The requested load of 780 kg exceeds the indicative 625 kg available. Something flies on a second sector.
Preliminary estimate for planning purposes only — not a confirmed price, availability or booking. Final routing, operational feasibility and pricing must be confirmed by the selected licensed operator.
Turn this estimate into a mission request
The figures above are a planning frame, not an offer. Send the mission and SkyMatch reviews it, researches operators holding the relevant approvals and comes back with current options. Your inputs are carried across — nothing needs retyping.
What actually moves this number
- Fuel. Every extra minute of range is paid for in payload.
- Temperature and altitude, which reduce performance sharply at hot or high sites.
- Actual crew weights dressed for the environment — survival suits and winter kit are heavy.
- Cargo shape as well as weight: some loads simply will not fit through a cabin door.
- Whether the aircraft can refuel en route or at the destination.
What this tool does not decide
- The real payload figure, which the operator calculates for the specific airframe, day and sector.
- Whether any item is classed as dangerous goods, which the operator must assess separately.
- Whether weather, sea state, daylight and diversion planning support the timing on the day.
- Whether passenger training, medicals and site inductions are valid at the time of flight.
- The binding price. Operators quote; this tool frames the budget conversation.

Frequently asked questions
Why can a seven-seat helicopter only take four people?
Because payload is shared with fuel. On a longer sector, in heat, or with equipment aboard, the weight limit is reached long before the seats run out.
Can tooling and spares travel with the crew?
Often yes, within payload and provided nothing is classed as dangerous goods. Give real weights early — a load discovered at the aircraft is the most common cause of a delayed departure.
Why is the cost shown as a band rather than a price?
Helicopters are chartered whole-aircraft, per mission. The final figure depends on which airframe is genuinely available, where it is based, positioning distance, standby and waiting, fuel and handling, permits and time of day. A band is honest at planning stage; a single number would not be.
Who confirms that this mission can actually happen?
The performing operator, together with the asset owner, site or vessel controlling the destination and the relevant authorities. They confirm aircraft, availability, permits, landing or hoist approval, weather limits and safety. SkyMatch structures and reviews the mission; it does not confirm operational facts.
Does this calculator book a helicopter?
No. It produces a planning estimate. SkyMatch Group is an independent broker and a human-reviewed mission platform: the request is reviewed, suitable licensed operators are researched, and an introduction happens only once SkyMatch approves it. Operators issue binding quotes and confirm feasibility.
