How helicopter charter pricing works
An operator prices a mission, not a seat: the aircraft leaves its base, flies your legs, waits where required and returns. Every one of those phases costs money even when you are not on board.

Flight time vs block time
Flight time is wheels-up to wheels-down. Block time adds start-up, taxi, ground running and shutdown. Most operators bill block time, which is why a 25-minute hop rarely bills as 25 minutes.
Positioning and repositioning cost
If the aircraft is not based where you start, the empty legs to and from your route are charged. Choosing a departure point near an operator's base is often the single biggest saving available.
Waiting time
Same-day returns keep the aircraft and crew committed. Some operators bill waiting at a reduced rate, others price the whole day; long waits can make two separate one-way missions cheaper.
Aircraft type
Single-engine light types are cheapest; twin-engine types are required for many over-water, night and corporate policies; heavy and offshore-capable types cost substantially more and are scarcer.
Landing and handling fees
Airport landing, handling, parking, passenger and helipad fees vary widely and are usually passed through at cost. Event periods add surcharges and slot fees.
Weather and backup planning
Alternates, fuel reserves, contingency slots and — for critical missions — a backup aircraft all carry cost. Cancellation and rebooking terms differ per operator and belong in the comparison.
Urgency
Short-notice missions draw on whatever is available rather than what is optimal, which usually raises positioning and rate.
Route complexity
Cross-border formalities, permits, controlled airspace, mountain or night operations and multi-leg days add planning time and cost.
Offshore and special mission costs
Offshore, helideck, survey, sling and medical-adjacent missions require specific approvals, equipment and crew currency. They are priced separately and only by operators holding those approvals.
