Commercial vessel helicopter transfer
Helicopter transfer to a commercial vessel is possible in some cases and impossible in others, and the honest first answer is that it depends on the ship, not on the helicopter. A vessel with a certified helideck, an approved winch area, or neither are three completely different missions. This is a marine industrial service — crew transfer, technicians, superintendents, class surveyors and urgent parts — and it is deliberately separate from luxury yacht work, because the approvals, certification and safety framework are not the same.

Helicopter sourcing to and from commercial vessels — ship crew transfer, technicians offshore, urgent spare parts, survey, research and construction vessels. Check mission feasibility with SkyMatch.
Missions covered: ship crew transfer, technician and superintendent delivery, class and survey personnel, urgent spare parts, and crew change on offshore construction, survey and research vessels.
The first question is always deck status: does the vessel have a certified helideck, a winch-only area, or no approved facility? Each answer changes the aircraft, the operator and whether the mission exists at all.
We never state that a vessel is helicopter-capable. Deck certification, limitations and the current status are established from the vessel's own documentation and owner.
Vessel position matters as much as vessel type: distance from a suitable shore base, whether the ship can hold or divert to a position, and the sea state and wind on the day.
Passenger requirements are set by the vessel and the operator — survival and escape training, medicals, PPE and any offshore certification, depending on the mission profile.
Winch operations are a specialist capability with their own approvals and are not available from every operator or in every jurisdiction; where they are relevant, they are confirmed explicitly.
Urgent parts and equipment are subject to weight, dimensions, packaging and dangerous-goods rules, with the operator signing the manifest.
Priced per mission and per aircraft, never per seat — aircraft category, flight time including positioning, crew, offshore configuration, waiting and standby, landing and handling, permits, equipment and season are the drivers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Only if the vessel has an approved and current helideck suitable for the aircraft type, or an approved winch area where winch operations are permitted and available. We establish that from the vessel's documentation and owner before anything else — we never assume a ship is helicopter-capable.
Where the vessel's facility, its position relative to a suitable shore base, weather and passenger certification allow it, and an operator with the right approvals is available. Those conditions are checked before the mission is presented as feasible.
Often yes, within payload, dimensions, packaging and dangerous-goods rules and subject to the vessel's deck arrangements. Send weights, dimensions and any DG classification with the request — they usually decide the aircraft.
It depends on the mission and the vessel. Offshore profiles commonly require current survival and escape training and a medical; the vessel and the operator set the requirement, not SkyMatch. Tell us what your people hold.
Position, heading, speed and whether the ship can hold or adjust for the transfer are agreed with the vessel in advance and confirmed close to the flight. A moving target with no agreed window is the most common reason a vessel mission fails.
Wind, sea state, visibility, deck motion and, for winch work, additional limits — all set by the operator and the vessel. These missions are cancelled or re-timed on operational grounds more often than shore-to-shore flights.
No, and we keep it separate deliberately. Commercial vessel work involves marine industrial certification, crew requirements and owner or charterer approvals that differ from private yacht transfers.
Northern European marine and offshore hubs — Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany — plus established offshore energy basins. Elsewhere it is checked case by case rather than assumed.
No. SkyMatch is an independent sourcing, brokerage and coordination platform and does not own or operate aircraft. Flights are performed by independent licensed operators, and aircraft, crew, availability, payload, pricing, deck or site access, permits and the decision to fly are confirmed by that operator and the relevant authorities, vessel owners or site owners.
