The Mediterranean Helicopter Time Index
How long a helicopter actually takes across 25 of the busiest Mediterranean corridors — and how far that is from the flight time people quote. Every row is generated from the same planning model that powers our calculators: great-circle distance between published reference points, a track factor for real routing, the operator's start-up and approach allowance, and the ground time at each end.

Surface figures appear only where we publish a researched ferry comparison. Where the cell is empty we have not measured the crossing, and we would rather leave it blank than guess.
How these numbers are produced
- Distance is the great-circle line between the two published reference points, not a road or sea distance.
- Airborne time applies a 1.05–1.20 track factor at a light-twin planning cruise, so it already allows for routing around controlled airspace and terrain.
- Block time adds the operator's start-up, taxi and approach allowance — the window an operator normally bills.
- Door-to-door adds apron access at departure and the ground leg on arrival, the number worth comparing against a ferry or a car.
- Figures are planning estimates from a published model, not a quotation: the operator confirms final timing for a specific aircraft, date and landing site.
Mediterranean helicopter time — FAQs
How long is the helicopter from Nice to Monaco?
About 5–7 minutes airborne, 15–15 minutes block time and 35–50 minutes door to door once apron access and the ground leg on arrival are included.
How long does Athens to Mykonos take by helicopter?
Athens to Mykonos is 136 km great-circle: 35–41 minutes airborne, 45–50 minutes block and 65–85 minutes door to door — against a ferry crossing measured in hours.
What is the difference between airborne, block and door-to-door time?
Airborne time is the rotors-in-the-air leg. Block time adds start-up, taxi and approach, which is normally what gets billed. Door-to-door adds apron access and the ground leg on arrival — the only number worth comparing with a ferry or a car.
What is the shortest helicopter corridor in the index?
Ibiza to Formentera at 16 km, roughly 4–6 minutes in the air.
Is a helicopter faster than the ferry on Mediterranean island routes?
On the crossings where we publish a researched comparison the helicopter wins door-to-door by a wide margin, because the ferry's published crossing time excludes the drive to the port, check-in and the last leg on the island.
How accurate are these helicopter flight times?
They are planning estimates from a published model, not quotations. Naples to Capri, for example, resolves to 20–20 minutes block time; the operator confirms final timing for a specific aircraft, date, payload and landing site.
Can I reuse or cite these figures?
Yes — any row can be reused with attribution to SkyMatch Group and a link to this page. If you need a corridor that is not listed, the flight time calculator runs the same model on any pair of points.
