Southern Chile helicopter RFQ calculator
Enter a southern Chile route, your target date, the passenger count and the kind of landing site, and this calculator returns an indicative charter range with a billable-hours breakdown. It is a planning frame, not a quotation: real pricing depends on aircraft type, positioning, operator availability, landing requirements, crew, weather and operational conditions.
Helicopter charter in Magallanes is priced per aircraft and per mission, and with few machines based this far south, positioning and weather move the number more than distance does. This calculator applies the same estimator logic used elsewhere on the site to the region's real sectors, so a budget can be set before operators are approached. SkyMatch is a helicopter charter broker and does not operate aircraft.
Mission inputs
The figures above are a preliminary planning estimate for the route, aircraft category and passenger count you entered. They reflect estimated flight time and typical market cost bands — not a live operator quotation. Only the licensed operator that flies the mission can confirm aircraft availability, landing permissions, operational feasibility and final pricing. Use this estimate to scope the trip, then send it to SkyMatch for a managed charter review.

Availability is confirmed only by the operator
- Patagonian wind is the deciding factor. Sectors are held, shortened or cancelled on the day, and the crew's decision governs. Every plan should carry a road, ferry or fixed-wing fallback and a spare day where the itinerary allows.
Preliminary estimate for planning purposes only — not a confirmed price, availability or booking. Final routing, operational feasibility and pricing must be confirmed by the selected licensed operator.
Turn this estimate into a mission request
The figures above are a planning frame, not an offer. Send the mission and SkyMatch reviews it, researches operators holding the relevant approvals and comes back with current options. Your inputs are carried across — nothing needs retyping.
What actually moves this number
- Positioning: few helicopters are based in Magallanes, so the ferry flight to and from your departure point is chargeable time and often the largest single line.
- Empty return legs: a one-way sector to a lodge or an estancia normally still pays for the aircraft to get home.
- Weather holds: wind windows shift departures, and an aircraft held on site or a spare day in the itinerary both cost money.
- Landing site: park-area, lodge, estancia and ship-deck landings require assessment, permission and sometimes ground support.
- Season: the December-to-March window is the tightest — availability, not distance, limits your date.
- Aircraft category: expedition baggage and headcount decide the category more often than the sector length does.
What this tool does not decide
- It does not check whether an aircraft is available on your date — only operators can answer that.
- It does not approve a landing point. Lodge, estancia, protected-area and ship-deck sites need operator assessment and permission.
- It does not predict weather. Patagonian wind decides departures and the crew's decision on the day is final.
- It does not price road, ferry or fixed-wing alternatives, and it does not replace an operator's quotation.
- It is not an offer, and no figure here binds SkyMatch or any operator.
SkyMatch Group is an independent helicopter charter broker and a human-reviewed mission platform. It does not operate aircraft. Every flight is performed by an independent licensed operator, and every introduction is approved by SkyMatch before it happens.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a quotation?
No. It is an indicative planning frame. Final charter pricing depends on aircraft type, aircraft positioning, operator availability, landing requirements, crew, weather and operational conditions, and only a licensed operator can quote.
Why is positioning so expensive in Patagonia?
Very few helicopters are based this far south. If no suitable aircraft is sitting at your departure point on your date, the empty flight in and out is part of the mission and is billed.
Can we land at a lodge inside Torres del Paine?
Not by default. Park-area and lodge landings need a suitable landing area, the operator's assessment, the site owner's permission and, inside protected areas, the relevant authority's authorisation. Some sites simply do not accept a direct landing and the mission ends at a nearby approved point.
What happens if the wind cancels the flight?
Wind is the normal cause of delay here. Plans should carry a road, ferry or fixed-wing fallback and, where possible, a spare day. The crew's decision on the day governs.
Can I buy a single seat?
No. You charter the aircraft. Passenger count matters when it forces a larger category or a second rotation, and expedition baggage frequently drives that decision before headcount does.
Which currency applies?
Chilean operators normally quote in USD or CLP; the ranges here are shown in EUR as a planning reference only. Taxes, handling and payment terms come from the operator's own quotation.
Does SkyMatch operate these flights?
No. SkyMatch is a helicopter charter broker and coordination platform. Flights are performed by independent licensed Chilean operators and remain subject to their availability, aircraft suitability, weather, landing permission, crew limits and local regulation.
