Many alpine resorts have a nearby heliport or valley landing site used for winter transfers; landings on the mountain itself are tightly regulated and in several countries largely prohibited outside defined sites. Altitude, temperature, snow conditions and rapidly changing mountain weather all constrain what is possible.

A winter airport-to-resort transfer that takes four hours by road frequently takes 20–35 minutes by helicopter. The constraint is rarely the flight — it is the landing site and the weather window.

Altitude and temperature performance

High-altitude landing sites reduce the payload a helicopter can carry, particularly in warmer conditions. That can mean a larger aircraft, fewer passengers per leg, or two legs — all of which we will state plainly in the quote.

Winter weather planning

Snow showers, low cloud and short daylight make winter windows narrow. Sensible planning means an early slot, a flexible second window and a pre-agreed road fallback on the day.

Landing is never guaranteed in advance

Local aviation regulations and any airspace restrictions in force

Operator approval after their own site and risk assessment

Written permission from the property owner or site manager

Aircraft type, size, weight and single- vs twin-engine requirements

Weather, visibility, wind and daylight at the planned time

Obstacles, surface condition, slope and safe approach/departure paths

Noise rules, curfews, protected areas and event-day restrictions

Can I be dropped at my chalet?

Only where a permitted landing site exists and the operator accepts it. In most alpine markets, arrival is at a resort or valley heliport with a short transfer.

Does ski equipment fit?

Usually yes, but skis and boards take volume. Declare the exact count when requesting so the aircraft class is right.

What happens if the weather closes in?

The operator will not fly outside limits. We plan a fallback window and, where needed, a ground transfer so the arrival still happens.
