Cape Town to the Winelands Helicopter: Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Constantia
Cape Town (FACT/FAWN) to the Cape Winelands by helicopter. 12–20 min flights to Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Constantia estates. Landing sites, costs and planning tips.
Table Bay to vineyard in a quarter-hour
The Cape Winelands sit 45–70 km east of Cape Town. By road that means 60–120 minutes each way depending on N1 and N2 traffic. By helicopter it is 12–22 minutes with a Table Mountain flyby thrown in — and the best Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Constantia estates have private LZs that put guests on the lawn beside the tasting room.
Planning tips
- Confirm the estate LZ 48h out. Even estates with regular helicopter arrivals require the slot logged for insurance and neighbour notice.
- Plan for the Cape Doctor. Summer southeasterlies (Nov–Feb) can gust 35–50 kt at estate LZs; the operator may switch to a nearby paddock or airfield.
- Time it around lunch service. Most estate pads prefer arrivals 15 minutes before restaurant seating; late arrivals disrupt other guests.
- Sunset return over the peninsula — the highest-value 20 minutes of any Winelands mission is the flight home in golden light.
Landing sites
- Stellenbosch — Delaire Graff, Waterford, Rust en Vrede, Tokara, private valley LZs.
- Franschhoek — La Residence, Grande Provence, Boschendal, Leeu Estates.
- Constantia — Constantia Uitsig, Steenberg, Groot Constantia — closer to CPT, 8–12 min flights.
- V&A Waterfront Helipad — the standard downtown Cape Town departure.
- Cape Town International (FACT) — jet-to-heli side-by-side at the Signature or ExecuJet FBO.
