Fastest way from the airport to a safari lodge or remote camp
Short answer
Driving from Nairobi to the Masai Mara takes five to six hours on rough roads; a scheduled light aircraft plus a game-drive transfer takes most of a morning. A helicopter reaches the Mara in roughly 45 minutes and Amboseli in about 40 minutes, landing where the camp and operator have an approved site.
Safari itineraries lose their best hours to transfers. A rotary leg is used to protect the first game drive, to move directly between camps without returning to a hub, and to reach conservancies with no usable airstrip.

What you have to plan around
- Wildlife regulations restrict where and how low aircraft may operate inside reserves.
- Luggage is the most common constraint: light helicopters typically take soft bags rather than large hard cases, and the operator confirms the exact allowance against passenger weights before the flight.
- Landing is only possible at a site the operator is permitted to use — an airport, a licensed helipad or a private site with the owner's consent and local approval. SkyMatch never confirms a landing point in advance.
