Patagonia helicopter cost estimator

This estimator turns a Patagonian route, aircraft category, passenger count, waiting time and season into an indicative charter range and a billable-hours breakdown. It is a planning frame, not a quotation: real pricing depends on aircraft type, positioning, operator availability, landing requirements, crew, weather and operational conditions.

Patagonian charters are priced per aircraft and per mission, and the far south adds two lines most regions do not: positioning, because the southern rotary fleet is small, and fuel logistics, because fuel sits at a handful of points. The estimator makes both visible so a budget can be set before operators are approached. SkyMatch is a helicopter charter broker and does not operate aircraft.

Mission inputs

The figures above are a preliminary planning estimate for the route, aircraft category and passenger count you entered. They reflect estimated flight time and typical market cost bands — not a live operator quotation. Only the licensed operator that flies the mission can confirm aircraft availability, landing permissions, operational feasibility and final pricing. Use this estimate to scope the trip, then send it to SkyMatch for a managed charter review.

Southern fleet is small and committed early

  • Patagonian wind, not distance, decides whether a sector flies on the day. Plan a window, an alternate and a ground fallback.

Preliminary estimate for planning purposes only — not a confirmed price, availability or booking. Final routing, operational feasibility and pricing must be confirmed by the selected licensed operator.

Turn this estimate into a mission request

The figures above are a planning frame, not an offer. Send the mission and SkyMatch reviews it, researches operators holding the relevant approvals and comes back with current options. Your inputs are carried across — nothing needs retyping.

What actually moves this number

  • Positioning: if no suitable aircraft is already in Magallanes or Aysén, the ferry flight in and out is chargeable time and often dominates a short sector.
  • Empty return legs: a one-way transfer normally still pays for the aircraft to get home unless it has follow-on work.
  • Aircraft category: wind margins, baggage volume and payload push southern missions up a category more often than passenger count does.
  • Fuel logistics: remote uplift and, on long missions, fuel positioned in advance.
  • Crew duty and overnight when the mission cannot be completed inside a duty day.
  • Waiting time on lodge day trips and vessel connections where the aircraft is held rather than released.
  • Landing fees, handling and any approval process for restricted or park-adjacent landing points.
  • Season: November to March is the southern window and the small regional fleet is committed early.

What this tool does not decide

  • It does not check whether an aircraft is available on your date — only operators can answer that.
  • It does not approve a landing point. Estancia, lodge and park-adjacent sites need operator assessment and, often, permission.
  • It does not predict weather. Wind decides Patagonian departures and the crew's decision on the day is final.
  • It does not price fixed-wing or ground legs, and it does not replace an operator's quotation.
  • It is not an offer, and no figure here binds SkyMatch or any operator.

SkyMatch Group is an independent helicopter charter broker and a human-reviewed mission platform. It does not operate aircraft. Every flight is performed by an independent licensed operator, and every introduction is approved by SkyMatch before it happens.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a quotation?

No. Indicative only. Final charter pricing depends on aircraft type, aircraft positioning, operator availability, landing requirements, crew, weather and operational conditions. Send the mission and SkyMatch obtains live operator pricing.

Why does a one-way cost close to a return?

Because the aircraft normally flies home empty. Unless the operator has follow-on work at your destination, that empty leg is billed, which is why the estimator adds it to a one-way.

How accurate are the sector times?

They are planning figures for typical light and medium twins in normal conditions — Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales around 55 minutes, Puerto Natales to the Torres del Paine lodge sectors around 25, Punta Arenas to Porvenir around 20. Actual routing and time are the operator's and crew's call.

What positioning figure should I use?

One to two hours is a realistic default in the far south outside peak season. Use zero only if you know an aircraft is already based where the mission starts; use more if your date falls outside the November–March window when fewer aircraft sit in the region.

Why does the estimator warn on long southern sectors?

Because movements beyond roughly two hours — toward Puerto Williams and the Cape Horn area — are fuel-critical and often better served by a fixed-wing charter for the point-to-point leg, with a helicopter used locally. We would rather say that than sell the wrong product.

Can I charter by the seat?

No. You charter the aircraft. Passenger count matters when it forces a larger category or a second rotation, and baggage volume frequently drives that decision before headcount does.

Which currency applies?

Most Chilean charter pricing is issued in USD by the performing operator, though some quote in CLP. Taxes, handling and payment terms come from the operator's own quotation.

Does SkyMatch operate these flights?

No. SkyMatch is a helicopter charter broker and coordination platform. Flights are performed by independent licensed operators and remain subject to their availability, aircraft suitability, weather, landing permission, crew limits and local regulation.
