Straight answers

How long does the flight to Basel take?

About 28 minutes airborne from Zürich Airport (ZRH) to the approved landing point for Basel. That is a planning figure, not a schedule: the routing, the slot you are given during an event window, the landing point the authorities approve and the weather on the day all move it, and the performing operator confirms the real number.

When is a helicopter actually worth it here?

During Art Basel (Basel) the case is access, not distance. Single-road approaches, event traffic management and parking restrictions turn a short drive into hours, and the helicopter buys back the part of the day you cannot reschedule — arriving for a session, a lunch or a departure slot that will not wait.

It is usually not worth it if your timings are flexible, you are travelling outside the peak arrival and departure windows, or you are one or two people who can share a road transfer — the aircraft is chartered whole, so a small party pays for all of it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a helicopter to Art Basel (Basel) cost?
The price is on request. The operator quotes each transfer to Art Basel (Basel) from Zürich Airport (ZRH) based on aircraft type, passenger count, luggage, waiting time and event-week slot fees. Send your dates and passenger numbers for a quote.
How long is the flight from ZRH to Basel for Art Basel (Basel)?
Roughly 28 minutes in the air from Zürich Airport to Basel, versus a road transfer that can take several hours during Art Basel (Basel) traffic. Allow around 15 minutes on the ground either side for handling and security. We can plan the exact departure slot around your arrival flight or hotel check-in.
Where does the helicopter land at Art Basel (Basel)?
Arrivals use EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse (BSL), about 6 minutes by helicopter from the Messe area, or a direct leg from Zürich (ZRH) in roughly 30 minutes and Geneva in about 50. Swiss landing sites outside licensed airfields require cantonal approval arranged by the operator.
Can I still book a last-minute helicopter for Art Basel (Basel) (Thursday 17 - Sunday 20 June 2027 (provisional), with VIP preview days earlier in the week)?
Often yes. Event weeks are slot-controlled and the best aircraft go 6–12 weeks ahead, but operators release cancellations and repositioning legs close to the date, and empty legs on the corridor into Basel can cut cost significantly. Message the SkyMatch mission desk on WhatsApp with your date, route and passenger count for current operator availability for Art Basel (Basel).
Are helicopter slots required for Art Basel (Basel)?
Yes — major events use slot-controlled airspace and helipads. SkyMatch books slots and ground handling weeks ahead of the event window.
How early should I book?
For Monaco GP, MYS and Cannes Lions, six to ten weeks ahead is typical. Davos and Silverstone routinely sell out twelve weeks ahead.
What does it cost?
Pricing is quoted per mission on request, for the whole aircraft.
Can SkyMatch handle delegations?
Yes — multi-aircraft fleet movements, principal-and-protection separation, and onward jet handoff are standard.
How much luggage can I bring on a helicopter to Art Basel (Basel)?
Plan on one soft holdall plus a cabin bag per passenger on a light twin. Hard cases, golf bags, camera rigs and hospitality equipment are usually fine but must be declared before the flight so the operator can run the weight-and-balance for the ZRH–Basel sector. If the manifest is heavy we either move to a larger cabin or send bags on the ground vehicle that meets you at the pad.
What happens if the weather closes in during Art Basel (Basel)?
Helicopter transfers to Art Basel (Basel) fly under VFR minima, so the operator reviews the forecast the evening before and again on the morning of the rotation. If the window is marginal we shift your slot earlier, reroute to an alternative landing site, or arrange a chauffeured ground leg. Weather cancellations by the operator are not charged for the unflown sector.
Can you run multiple rotations for a group at Art Basel (Basel)?
Yes. Most Art Basel (Basel) movements are flown as shuttle rotations: one aircraft cycling between Zürich Airport and Basel every 66 minutes or so, or two aircraft in parallel where the slot grid allows it. Give us the total head count and the time everyone must be on site and we build the rotation plan with the operator.
How far in advance should I book a helicopter for Art Basel (Basel)?
For Thursday 17 - Sunday 20 June 2027 (provisional), with VIP preview days earlier in the week, aim for four to eight weeks. Event-week helipad slots, ground handling and crew duty are allocated in advance and the best aircraft go first. Late requests are still worth sending — we regularly place same-week charters and repositioning legs — but availability and pricing both tighten inside seven days.
Can the helicopter wait and fly us back after Art Basel (Basel)?
Yes. You can either hold the aircraft and crew on the ground (charged as waiting time, usually the most convenient option for a same-day return) or book a separate return rotation at a fixed departure slot. For evening finishes we confirm the site's licensed hours and night-flying capability before quoting, since some venue pads close at dusk.
Is SkyMatch the operator for Art Basel (Basel) helicopter transfers?
No. SkyMatch is an independent charter concierge and matching service. We send your Art Basel (Basel) requirement to suitable independent operators; the selected operator remains responsible for the aircraft, crew, approvals and flight.
How do I request a helicopter quote for Art Basel (Basel)?
Use the SkyMatch RFQ with your departure point, date, preferred arrival time, passenger count and luggage. SkyMatch reviews the brief and requests offers from suitable independent operators as quickly as possible, subject to availability, permissions and operator approval.
Where exactly does the helicopter land for Art Basel (Basel)?
Arrivals use EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse (BSL), about 6 minutes by helicopter from the Messe area, or a direct leg from Zürich (ZRH) in roughly 30 minutes and Geneva in about 50. Swiss landing sites outside licensed airfields require cantonal approval arranged by the operator. The operator files the landing request against that site, and we confirm the pad, the ground handover and any escort into Messe Basel in writing before you pay. If the event pad is saturated on the day, the fallback is the nearest licensed site with a pre-arranged car for the last few minutes.
How do you verify the Art Basel (Basel) dates, access and landing permissions?
We work from the organiser's published schedule (Thursday 17 - Sunday 20 June 2027 (provisional), with VIP preview days earlier in the week) and re-check it against the official Art Basel (Basel) channels before confirming any rotation, including www.artbasel.com/basel. Access to the site itself (tickets, hospitality or paddock passes) stays with you or your host — we only handle the air and ground movement. The operator holds the AOC, insurance and the event-week landing approval; we send you the operator name, aircraft registration and permit status so everything is verifiable before departure.
What time should we depart to arrive comfortably at Art Basel (Basel)?
Work back from the time you must be on site: the air sector is 28 minutes, plus roughly 15 minutes for boarding at Zürich Airport and 10–20 minutes for the pad-to-venue transfer in Basel. That puts a typical door-to-door window at about 58–73 minutes. During Thursday 17 - Sunday 20 June 2027 (provisional), with VIP preview days earlier in the week we add a slot buffer because event-week pads sequence multiple arrivals.
